US Warship - USS Barry - Sunday 30th January 2011
On Sunday, 30th January 2011, the Sliema Cub Scouts had a great opportunity and spent about 80minutes touring the ‘USS Barry’ warship which was in Malta (berthed at the Grand Harbour - Pinto Wharf - Valletta) for a couple of days. The Marines on board this ship, named after the ‘Father of the US Navy’, welcomed the Cubs and held a number of educational activities. They showed them what they do to prepare for a helicopter landing, demonstrated the equipment used just in case a fire spreads on board and a number of other interesting facts. Of course, they also spent time learning about how the Marines defend our seas using the right weaponry and technology. A big thank you goes to Lieutenant Commander Phillip Webb from the US Embassy in Malta who made this activity possible. We also thank all those who welcomed us on board the USS Barry. As a sign of thanks, we also presented them with our Group scarf and a number of badges.
